Kindred Alchemy sound healing singing bowls

sound meditation

If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies

~ Dr Mitchell Gaynor

Sound baths give you an opportunity to find stillness, experience deep meditative states, moments of reflection and insight and most of all it gives the gift of deep relaxation.

Sound meditation is a practise, the more you experience it the greater the rewards. Sound as therapy can offer ‘sound bathers’: (oh there’s no water involved! You are bathed in sound - no nudity or swim suits required!)

  • Increased feelings of relaxation

  • Supports the nervous system

  • Increases energy levels

  • Calms the mind

  • Improves sleep

  • Improves mood and overall feelings of happiness

  • Reduced feelings of pain

  • Reduced feelings of stress

  • Helps with burn out and adrenal fatigue

  • Brings peace and balance to mind and body

  • Enhances creativity

  • Improves concentration

Therapeutic sound is not the same as music - music has structure and predictable patterns - our super clever brains LOVE following and predicting patterns so it remains active, searching for something to follow. The sounds made during a sound bath are unstructured and unpredictable. I also choose instruments that you won’t likely have a relationship with - ie piano, guitar etc…. The instruments played during a sound bath are harmonious and soothing to help your brainwaves slow and deepen bringing you into a deeper state of relaxation.

The instruments I use:

I have a variety of instruments to call on during our sound baths, I won’t use them all each time, rather I feel into the energy of the group, the lunar cycle and the intention for our session together. My instruments include: Crystal singing bowls of various sizes, metal singing bowls, koshi chimes, flow chime, a gorgeous Grotta Sonora gong, shruti box, crystal pyramid, native American flute, ocean drum, shamanic drums, rain stick……

I am not a sound healer

Or any kind of healer for that matter, yes, sound has healing properties and people often find different levels of healing BUT I would rather use the term sound therapist or sacred space holder. Anyone can come along to a session, regardless of your personal situation, and if you find yourself healed, that’s amazing! We live crazy busy lives, productivity is rewarded and very little value is placed on rest, relaxation and revitalisation. This is why we have high levels of stress, dis-ease, burn out, depression etc. Regularly attending a sound bath, practising stillness and deep listening, supporting your nervous and immune system are all ways to support your mind, body and overall wellness.
